Help rejuvenate Rotaract in Boksburg

The Boksburg Lake Rotary Club invites people between the ages of 18 and 30 to join Rotaract, a youth branch of Rotary.

According to Martin Stokes, Rotary Club of Boksburg Lake president, the previous Boksburg Lake Rotaract members moved away from the area and, wanting to still be a part of Rotary, established their own Rotary club.

“This new club is called the Midrand Nexgen Rotary Club and it aims to continue making a difference in the world by supporting the needy.

“The time has come for young people to rejuvenate Rotaract in Boksburg and we are calling on all tertiary students and working people to join,” said Stokes.

There are 9 522 Rotaract clubs in 177 countries around the world, with a total membership of around 271 000 young people.

Here are some of the advantages of being part of Rotaract:

n You can make friends with other young people in your area and around the world.

n Use your skills and profession to help others.

n Gain useful knowledge and confidence while mixing and operating in a structured club environment.

n You will have guidance from the sponsoring Rotary club (Boksburg Lake).

“Once members of Rotaract grow into qualified professional persons and business leaders, they become eligible to join Rotary,” Stokes explained.

The Boksburg Lake Rotaract Club meets twice a month to generate young and vibrant game-changing ideas to make a difference in communities. They serve children, adults and the aged while having a great time with friends.

Some of Rotaract’s previous projects include planting trees and teaching the children of Urban Ruins, in Plantation, about trees, organising a Christmas party for 168 children at the Community Crisis Centre in Reiger Park, building a mobile library for a Venda community in just one day and supplying toys and food to a crèche in Nqutu, KwaZulu-Natal.
