Take note SASSA cards are valid beyond expiry date
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) continues to receive queries from beneficiaries about the expiry date of its payment cards and the implications thereof.
The expiry date reflected on the current SASSA card is December 2017.
SASSA said that no beneficiary of social grants will be affected by this expiry date.
SASSA is in the planning phase regarding the future payment of social grants once the contract with the current service provider CPS (Cash Paymaster Services) comes to an end, in March 2018.
As soon as final plans are in place, beneficiaries will be informed about the updating process.
All social grant recipients are also warned not to heed the call by anyone to change their cards. The SASSA card bearing the colours of the South African flag remains the official card and cannot be changed for any other card.
Beneficiaries should be aware that a lot of the circulating news – which requires them to disclose their personal and card details – is fake.
SASSA doesn’t sell financial products, such as loans, and advises beneficiaries not to use their cards to acquire financial services.

SASSA welcomes the appointment of a panel of experts by the Constitutional Court. These experts will monitor the process leading to the phasing out of the CPS, as directed by the court in The Black Sash Trust vs Minister of Social Development and others.
The court panel consists of the following people: Angela Bester, Anthony Felet, Werner Krull, Gill Marcus, Tim Masela, Mmamolatelo Mathekga, Mavuso Msimang, Brand Taute, Doris Tshepe and Heinz Weilert.
SASSA will provide the panel with the necessary support to ensure that the process is a success and that grant beneficiaries are protected in every possible way.
