Security officer shot on duty in Witfield

A security officer was wounded during a business robbery shoot-out in Pretoria Road, Witfield, on June 11.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, two men entered the supermarket with firearms.

“One suspect pointed a firearm at the cashier. He instructed her to take out all the cash,” said Coetzer.

“The complainant noticed that the other suspect held the rest of the people at gunpoint. One of the staff pressed the alarm, and soon thereafter a security officer stopped next to the shop’s door,” he added

The suspects saw him and started shooting at his vehicle, which ended up wounding the officer in the arm.

The suspects fled the scene and SAPS were called.

The owners of the supermarket thank the CPF, SAPS and other community members who assisted them on the scene.

“To all the people who assisted us last night, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” read a statement.

In the statement the CPS were thanked for their quick response and security personnel were thanked for putting their lives at risk. The officer who was shot was saluted for his bravery and for doing his utmost to protect them.

“We also thank everyone who assisted and phoned and came to the scene to see if we were okay,” the last sentence read.
