The arrest followed an operation in Pretoria Road, Jet Park during which the SAPS were searching vehicles in the evening.
Constables Patrick Mohlamonyane, Khakhathi Siphoro and Conny Sibanyoni from Boksburg North SAPS were conducting a routine stop when they found a Hyundai with the lights off and three occupants inside.
According to Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the occupants and the vehicle were searched.
A firearm was found in the vehicle.
Further inquiry showed that the firearm is SAPS property and was stolen in 2014.
The three were arrested and detained.
