Man lands in hot water over unlicensed firearm, ammunition.

Police in Boksburg North arrested a 44-year-old man they allegedly found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

According to the Ekurhuleni Central SAPS Cluster’s Sgt Mashudu Phathela, the man was arrested on Thursday, May 4, during a stop-and-search operation along First Street in Boksburg North.

“After pulling him over officers searched him and found the weapon on his waist area. He failed to produce a licence. He was immediately placed under arrest and the firearm was seized.

“It was later discovered that his licence had expired.

“He is expected to appear in court this week,” said Phathela.

Phathela urged gun owners to renew their firearm licences before they have expired, otherwise they will be arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Phathela advises gun owners to renew their firearm licences at least three months before their expiry date, to avoid being without a valid licence.

For more information on firearm licences, residents may visit their local SAPS Firearm Record Centre (FRC).
