Constable seriously injured after being dragged along North Rand Road

A Boksburg North SAPS constable was dragged by a vehicle along North Rand Road for quite a distance on Saturday, April 1.

Two constables were patrolling in North Rand Road just after 5am when they stopped an unknown vehicle.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the male driver was the only person in the vehicle.

“While the constable was searching the vehicle, the driver pulled off at high speed, with the constable still halfway in the vehicle,” said Coetzer.

“The constable tried to hang on to the rooftop of the vehicle while the driver was trying to shake him off. A part of the roof broke and the constable fell off.”

The injured constable was taken to hospital. The extent of his injuries is serious, but he is in a stable condition.

A case of attempted murder has been reported.

Any witnesses are urged to contact the investigating officer on 011 306 0000, with reference number 34/4/2017.
