Who opened new Ravenswood Road to traffic?

The new stretch of Ravenswood Road between Bartlett and Trichardts roads has recently been opened to traffic.

But the question remains: who was behind the opening of the road?

Extension of Ravenswood Road underway to ease traffic

The Advertiser asked Ekurhuleni Metro spokesman Themba Gadebe when the road was opened.

Gadebe had no idea.

We further sought comment from the local councillor, Ruhan Robinson, who knows nothing about the latest developments either.

It was also rumoured that the road was officially opened by Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina but his spokesperson Gugu Ndima said this is not true.

The Advertiser heard allegations, however, that the residents in the area opened the road themselves.

It is rumoured that they simply removed the stones last week and started driving on the road.

In recent weeks, there’s been an uproar regarding the timing of the traffic lights at the intersection of Trichardts and Ravenswood roads.

Where’s our flicker arrow? – Frustrated motorists

Since the installation of the new traffic lights due to the new stretch of Ravenswood Road between Bartlett and Trichardts, motorists have been greatly inconvenienced.

For motorists turning left into Trichardts from Ravenswood, the wait increased from a manageable one to three minutes to a frustrating nine to 13 minutes.

When the flicker was finally adjusted, traffic started backing up on Trichardts Road turning right into Ravenswood Road.

But The Advertiser observed the traffic there today and noticed that it was running smoothly in both directions.
