The 35-year-old prisoner escaped in 2015 and was re-arrested recently in Mapleton.
The suspect had been sentenced to 10 years for possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle.
According to Const Nkemeleng Mabula from the Dawn Park SAPS, they were alerted to be on the lookout for the fugitive.
“Const/s Phuti Ngoepe and Godfrey Tshehla were on duty on February 10 late in the evening and while patrolling around Mapleton they noticed someone who looked just like the person they saw on the picture given.
“The police then followed the suspect into a tavern and arrested him,” Mabula said.
