Parents seek closure regarding murder of their son
August 20 marks the 16th anniversary of the brutal murder of Reynard de Villiers, who was killed during a business robbery in Boksburg East, and his family is still looking for closure as nobody has yet been arrested in connection with the crime.
Reynard was 37 years old at the time of the attack.
His father, Robert de Villiers, who has relocated to KwaZulu-Natal with his wife, said the family simply wants closure and that the delays in finding those responsible are frustrating.
According to De Villiers, it was a few hours after sunrise on August 20, 2001, when robbers entered a factory in Commissioner Street, Boksburg East, and held employees, including Reynard, at gunpoint.
“They shot and killed my son and more than 15 years later we are still looking for answers to our son’s death. As parents, we would like closure,” he said, describing the day of the shooting as the worst of their lives.
De Villiers added that they never heard anything from the police after the incident.
A spokesperson for the Boksburg police, Sgt Cebisa Maseko, endeavoured without success to get information on the case in question, this week. She, however, promised to make further enquiries and get back to us.
Therefore, it remains unclear if the incident is still being investigated or the investigation is at a standstill.
Despite this, Reynard’s parents still hope that the murder will eventually be solved and are asking anyone with information on this case to come forward.
