The school’s admission office felt the report was unfair to them as it did not give their side of the story.
Parents furious as children not admitted to preferred schools
This after Lindokuhle Kolanisi told the Advertiser she made a manual Grade Eight application for her daughter at the school on April 19.
She was given an acknowledgement letter confirming her child’s application.
However, she told the Advertiser that she was this year told to apply at another school as there was no space for her child when she pitched up for enrolment.
She was left frustrated.
The Advertiser then contacted the Gauteng Education Department, which failed to respond despite acknowledgement of our email enquiry and being given ample time to do so..
As a result, the Advertiser published an article without their comment.
The school said that after parents had made manual applications to the school last year, it made an effort to contact all parents who applied manually to re-apply online as the department was going to consider and prioritise online only applications.
The school believes the concerned parent ignored their advice as other parents went on to apply online.
The school said she only came back to the school “two weeks” ago.
Kolanisi said she does not recall being contacted by the school. However, despite all the hiccoughs, Kolanisi’s child was admitted to Voortekker.
