Longtime resident of Boksburg Brenda Petterson dies

Boksburg resident Brenda Petterson died at the age of 72 on December 27.

Her husband, Martin, said they have been residents of Libradene for 45 years.

The couple courted for four years before they married and, at the time of Brenda’s death, had been happily married for seven weeks short of 52 years.

Recollecting early memories, Martin said they spent their honeymoon onboard the RMS Windsor Castle on an 11-day voyage to England, followed by a 30-day tour of Europe.

The couple worked in London for three years, spending many starvation-budget holidays in Europe and Scandinavia before returning again on the RMS Windsor Castle to South Africa.

Martin says their favourite destination was always Paris.

Brenda, who worked as a microbiologist, is survived by her husband and three children, Diane, Louretta and Andrew Patterson, all of whom attended Parkdene Primary and matriculated at Sunward Park High.

Martin added that Brenda’s infectious and ever-happy disposition will be missed by her surviving sisters, Elaine Horwitz and Audrey Tingley, and her sister-in-law, Lynette, and her husband, Fred van As, as well as many other Boksburg and East Rand residents, community members and friends.

Martin is eternally grateful and feels blessed that his beloved sweetheart, Brenda, passed away very peacefully and left him and the whole family with so many happy memories.
