Rapist sentenced to 32 years

The Boksburg Magistrate's Court sentenced Luwi Cindi (32) for a combined 32 years imprisonment recently.

This was for charges of housebreaking and theft (eight years), assault GBH (three years), kidnapping (six years) and rape (15 years).

On July 2, 2012 the suspect committed housebreaking and theft in Dawn Park. He was arrested and taken to court, where he was released on lack of evidence.

The investigating officer, Detective Constable Nonhlanhla Zulu, however, conducted further investigation on the docket.

In the meantime, while the detective was investigating a case of rape committed on May 30, 2015, she was able to link the suspect to the earlier case of housebreaking and theft through DNA results.

The cases were combined and the suspect was later convicted on both of them. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Dawn Park SAPS commended the detective’s effort, proving that the arm of the law is too long to escape.
