According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the suspects wanted to know where the safe was.
“The suspects immediately left the house, when the complainant informed them that they don’t have a safe,” said Coetzer.
While the suspects were leaving the property, security patrolmen arrived and about five shots were fired.
No one was injured and the suspects got away.
“House owners shouldn’t tell anyone whether they have a safe or not,” said Coetzer.
“This was allegedly a hit on a wrong house. The suspects specifically wanted a house with a safe.
“Please be vigilant and don’t tell people what you have in your house.”
Crime Briefs:
• Robbery at Boksburg North Hotel
The complainant was collecting coins from the pool tables in the Boksburg North Hotel, when three men entered the door of the hotel and pointed firearms at him.
That happened on November 23, around 10.36pm.
Coetzer said that the suspects took the bags of coins and the cash from the tills.
“They forced the complainant into a room where his wife was – and took an undisclosed amount of money out of the safe.
“They also took their cell phones and then fled the scene.”
From investigating the docket and following up leads, Det-W/O Willem van Aswegen found one suspect in possession of some of the coins.
The suspect was identified from the hotel’s video footage.
He was arrested and detained at Boksburg North SAPS.
• Conspiracy to commit a crime
The complainant – a security guard -was allegedly approached by two other security guards, at the company in Springbok Road, Jet Park.
According to Coetzer, they informed him that, at a specific time, they would come back to rob the company.
The guard informed the company who, in response, informed the Boksburg North SAPS.
Det-W/O Robert Ngomane went to the company and hid away with the guard.
At about 10.45pm, they saw a black sedan approaching the gate and the guard informed him that it was the suspects.
As the three suspects entered the company premises, they were arrested by W/O Ngomane.
• Possession of jamming devices
The complainant allegedly parked his motor vehicle at the East Rand Traders Square, in North Rand Road.
When he arrived back at his motor vehicle, said Coetzer, he found that the doors were open and his possessions stolen.
He went back into the market and asked to view the video footage.
On the video footage he saw the suspect, who was wearing pink shoes, opening his vehicle and taking his possessions.
The complainant went outside to look for this suspect and found him.
He contacted the Boksburg North SAPS.
On arrival at the scene, they searched the suspect and his friend and found motor vehicle jamming devices in their possession.
Both suspects were arrested and detained at Boksburg North SAPS.
