Aftercare centre serves as a hub for safety, development for impoverished children

An aftercare programme, T3 Aftercare Café, has been set up to assist the children of Ramaphosa (Reiger Park Extension 5) from the ages of seven to 18 with their studies.

They eventually hope to assist children in all impoverished communities.

These are children of working parents and unemployed parents where, in one way or another, children have no caregiver after school.

“Also found in the community are is child-headed households and granny-headed households,” said Molebogeng Rapetswa, head and founder of T3 Aftercare Café.

“The most common tale in Ramaphosa is that children are abducted and raped. We therefore aim to keep children indoors and safe.”

The centre, operating from Ramaphosa Combined School (Mabaso), Ingwamza Street, is open daily from 2pm to 6pm.

Here they also help learners with schoolwork and are preparing them for 2017.

The motto of the aftercare programme is ‘Informing perceptions; solidifying knowledge’.

T3 Aftercare Café offers daily meals, fruit snacks and juice to the children.

The aftercare has previously been assisted by Rotary Club, Seshego Cares and Jungle Tots.

Through this assistance they were able to start a library humanitarian centre.

They’re also currently awaiting a donation of Toms shoes, which will be distributed among the children.

Jungle Tots sponsored toys and stationery.

Theo Buttress from The Granular Company has offered netball and soccer coaching clinics for both girls and boys.

He also helped with some professional handyman work.

The principal of Ramaphosa Combined School and the school board have provided the premises.

“We have had so many well-wishers so far,” said Rapetswa.

On December 10, T3 Aftercare Café will be hosting a fun day with the hopes of taking their children on a camp for three days, from December 12.

The fun day will take place from 10am to 5pm, at Ramaphosa Combined School and will include the following: jumping castles, swimming pools, school plays, face painting, professional netball and soccer coaching clinic, professional dance clinics and much more.

Entry to the fun day is R80 and all funds raised will go towards the camp.
