Housebreaker arrested
On November 13 at about 2pm, the complainant left his house to attend a church service. At about 6.20pm on his arrival home, he found his house door open.
Coetzer said he discovered that a lot of his electrical equipment had been taken. While inspecting his garden, he saw community members with a suspect approaching him.
“They had heard about the break-in and chased the suspect. They apprehended the suspect near the Ravensklip train station,” said Coetzer.
“They found him with the stolen items in his possession. Boksburg North SAPS were contacted and the suspect was arrested and the goods handed in at the police station.”
Coetzer said the SAPS need the co-operation of the community to combat crime.
“Crime is not only the responsibility of the SAPS but is everyone’s business.
“Again, we appeal to the community, please do not leave your valuables visible in your vehicle. When you are going to drive in your vehicle from point A to point B, please put your handbag, laptop and other valuables in the boot.
“Also, do not pick up a stranger to give them a lift. You do not know who the person is or what the intentions of this person are. You might end up paying with your life, or lose your possessions. We all know that there are criminals everywhere.
“Another occurrence is people withdrawing huge amounts of cash and then travelling alone in their vehicles. This is not advisable.
“Rather electronically transfer the cash instead of carrying it with you. Please watch your surroundings and be vigilant when you are travelling.
“Criminals do not care if you get hurt during the crime, they just want your possessions. They are watching you everywhere, and you create an open opportunity for them to rob you and hurt you.”
