EMPD nab alleged ATM scammer
The EMPD arrested a man for allegedly preying on bank customers over the weekend.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko, the alleged scammer followed someone who was withdrawing money from the Capitec ATM on Trichardts Road, in the Boksburg CBD, and confronted her before stealing the bank card.
The theft was then reported to the EMPD, who managed to apprehend the alleged thief before he could withdraw the victim’s savings.
He was charged with an offence relating to the theft of the victim’s card.
The arrests came a few days after another bank customer fell victim to a cash machine scam at the same ATM.
The woman was reportedly standing in the queue, but, when it was her turn to use the machine, a man who was standing in the queue behind her sneakily got close enough to see the woman enter her PIN.
The card would then not eject.
The victim tried in vain to remove her card, before the man who was standing in the queue behind her distracted her.
The thief needed only a few brief seconds to steal the woman’s bank card.
According to ward councillor Marius de Vos, who is aware of the incident, someone later withdrew money from the woman’s account using the stolen card.
No arrest has been made so far, but police are now investigating a fraud case. -@FanieFLK
