DA pays unannounced visit to Boksburg Home Affairs

Following complaints received about Boksburg Home Affairs closing early on Saturday mornings, a DA delegate recently paid an unannounced visit to the office.

The delegation was led by Prof Belinda Bozzoli MP, Clr Marius de Vos (Ward 32), Clr Ashley Hoods (Ward 33) and Janet Semple MPL, constituency head Boksburg East.

“We paid an unannounced visit to the office in Market Street to assess the situation,” said Semple.

“The office is supposed to be open until 12.30pm on Saturday, to give those who are unable to come during the week a chance to organise passports, IDs and birth certificates.

“During the visit we discussed numerous issued with the office management, which included the shortened office hours, especially on Saturday mornings.

“It was explained that the new smart card ID needs a minimum of 11 officials to process applications and the office is often short-staffed on Saturdays, due people being on sick leave or family responsibility leave.

“The office was full of members of the public during our visit, but things were proceeding in an orderly manner, if rather slowly.

“The DA will be asking questions in Parliament to clarify issues raised during the visit about staffing matters and new premises.”
