Reiger Park Idols SA contestant, Sgherdeed Ross, was voted out of the Idols competition last week Sunday, September 18.

Ross, an internal auditor, who entered the show for the second time made a breakthrough this year as she was part of the top 16.

She said her Idols journey was very exciting and insightful.

Though there was a lot of work and she says she learnt a great deal on the show which she will use in her music career.

“My highlight has to be when I was voted in the top 16, I didn’t expect it,” Ross said.

Ross, a married mother of two daughters, said being away from her family throughout the competition was a challenge.

“I missed my family very much, even though I got the chance to speak to them over the phone, I still missed them,” Ross said.

She said her other talent besides singing is dancing and is a very good in motivational speaker as well.

Ross started singing in school when she was just 11 years old.

She attended Lakeside Primary School and proceeded to Reiger Park Secondary School.

Speaking about the day she was voted out of the competition, she said she was very shocked as she didn’t expect the sudden exit.

“When I went backstage everything started to sink in that I was not part of the competition anymore. I was very sad but I didn’t allow my emotions to get to me,” Ross said.

She said the support she received from friends and family while she was still in the competition was phenomenal as they would encourage her and keep reminding her why she entered the competition in the first place.

When asked if there was any drama off camera between the contestants she said they were a united bunch with one vision – to win.

“My favourite performance was when I performed Alicia Keys’ song – Try sleeping with a broken heart. I love Alicia Keys so when the judges chose the song for me, I could relate to it.

“I am very grateful to everyone who voted for me and supported me throughout the competition. The Facebook messages from fans that I received really made me happy so I am very thankful,” Ross said.
