Metro celebrates role of women in the transport sector

The Ekurhuleni Metro celebrated Women’s Month in style, by hosting three events celebrating women working in what is perceived to be male dominated departments, such as waste management services and bus drivers.

Dressed in ’80s themed dresses, women working in the transport sector across Ekurhuleni spent their day at the Boksburg Civic Centre, on August 26, being pampered by the metro.

The purpose of the day was to celebrate the hard work invested by these women, encouraging them to continue working with pride.

The women who graced the event were bus drivers and those working in the licensing unit as cashiers.

The women were treated to a motivational talk, financial advice, goodie bags and, of the hundreds of women present, the three best dressed were awarded gifts courtesy of Old Mutual.

Hentie D’Abreton, from the Boksburg Licensing Department, said she enjoyed herself on the day.
