Community’s help needed to curb crime spree

Boksburg police are appealing to members of the public to help them find the thugs who are responsible for the recent crime spree.

The crimes have resulted in many families and businesses losing thousands of Rands worth of goods.

In one of the recent incidents, a Mercedes-Benz employee had his company’s car hijacked at one of the traffic lights on Rondebult Road, Boksburg, in broad daylight.

The driver of the white Mercedes-Benz told the Boksburg police that he was waiting for the traffic lights to turn green when a group of men accosted him on July 24.

The thugs reportedly all jumped into the luxury car, shoved the driver onto the back seat, and drove off with the victim in tow.

They held him hostage for about three hours, before he was set free in a secluded area in the Lindelani informal settlement, in Daveyton.

The car is insured and a case of hijacking has been registered.

In another crime story, thieves entered a residential property in Parkrand on July 17, and robbed R100 000 worth of goods.

The robbers, armed with firearms and a pickaxe, reportedly threatened the defenceless domestic worker with their weapons, before stealing the valuable items – including a TV set.

They were seen fleeing the scene in a white car.

Meanwhile in Southvale Road, Parkrand, lawbreakers stole goods worth about R45 000 from a residential property, on July 26.

They lifted the entrance gate off its rails to enter the yard and proceeded to the house, where they helped themselves to valuable goods including a TV set, amplifier, jewellery and clothing.

In Cason, a resident told the police that thieves stole R11 700 worth of goods while he was at work on July 26.

The man left his property at about 5.30am before his daughter phoned him at about 5pm, informing him that their house had been burgled. -@FanieFLK
