Ford ST lovers open their hearts, wallets

East Rand Crew, a Ford ST owners' club, donated over 700 blankets to charities on the East Rand, on Saturday, July 16.

Members of the family-based car club have been collecting blankets over a period of two months.

Big companies also pulled in such as Professional Shipping that sponsored 200 blankets and Crazy Plastic Express, Volvo South Africa and Mayfair Gearbox that sponsored 100 blankets each.

In a convoy, two Ford Transit vans filled with blankets and revving Ford ST vehicles embarked from Boksburg at 8am for The Salvation Army, Benoni, for the first drop-off.

Together with the blankets, The Salvation Army received 100 toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes, respectively.

The next stop was Jabes Care Centre, Brakpan, which also received cups and rolls with the blankets.

Back in Boksburg, the East Rand Crew donated blankets to Gerald Gross Estates who hosted a charity drive for the St Francis Care Centre, at Parkdene Centre.

The crew’s last stop was New Beginnings.

Not only did they donate blankets to the foundation, but clothing, 100kg of dog food and 20kg cat food was also delivered.

East Rand Crew will be donating the remaining blankets to ODI Raceway in Pretoria.

This was the club’s first charity event in its first year of existence.

According to the East Rand Crew president, Wayne Holloway, the club’s next charity event will be animal driven and will kick off within the next month.
