The victim, a Mozambican man, was busy selling fruit and vegetables in his small business on Clarence September Street, Reiger Park, when Norman and his accomplice arrived.
The victim was threatened at gunpoint to hand over his valuables.
The incident happened on August 15 last year.
Reiger Park SAPS’ Det Cost Dumisane Mthembi conducted a thorough investigation and managed to find Norman, who was then brought to book for his action.
The man well known as ‘Jack’ in the community of Reiger Park was subsequently found guilty of the crime and sentenced.
“We applaud the good work of our members. We continue to warn criminals that crime doesn’t pay,” said Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela.
Phathela believes that ‘Jack’s’ sentencing would send a strong message to would-be criminals.
