No monkeying about for these marmoset ‘parents’

Gauteng members of the Marmoset Forum SA had a sociable monkey-day for all the marmoset 'moms', on Saturday, June 18, at Sandy Bunker in Boksburg.

Mariet Roberts established the forum and Rika Nothnagel and Martie Snydert organised the function.

A monkey-day is held quarterly where marmoset lovers meet and brag with their “children”.

Discussions about marmosets were the order of the day.

“It (marmosets) is our passion,” Rika Nothnagel said.

“They are our children – not our animals; we love them. If we didn’t take them in, they would’ve been neglected and eaten by wild animals.”

Everyone gave each other advice and assistance on how to be the best marmoset “mommy”.

“We are there for each other and encourage each other. If there is something wrong with someone’s ‘baby’, we stand together,” said Nothnagel.
