The properties in question are in Brown and Morris streets, Witfield.
To his amazement, the house owners have built extra houses on these premises.
He asked whether the owners have applied for re-zoning.
“We live in the most beautiful suburb of Witfield, where most people take pride in their houses and gardens,” said the complainant.
“Unfortunately, there are now hostels being built on properties in our area. I cannot see that there were ever plans submitted or approved for the ugly rooms being erected on these premises.
“My house has already devalued by R200 000 last year, as a result of the Angelo informal settlement. It will devalue again if these hostels continue.
“When I look through my dining room window, I look out on this building.”
According to him, the buildings are only half finished, with people already living in them.
“I don’t even think they’ve got water and electricity,” he said.
According to ward councillor Hilary Coke, there are a number of buildings on properties which are illegal, but she was unable to comment on the properties in question.
She suggested that the complainant writes an email to Ekurhuleni Council Town Planning.
The Advertiser is still awaiting comment from the metro on this matter.
