Man who stole police firearm sentenced to 14 years in prison

A 20-year-old man who stole a state firearm from a police officer's house in Dawn Park in 2015, was sentenced at the Vosloorus Regional Court recently.

Wiston Morgan was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment for the crime, which includes possession of an illegal firearm and live ammunition and pointing a firearm at a police officer.

According to Constable Nkemeleng Mabula from the Dawn Park Police Station, the victim was busy in her house when the suspect attacked her, robbed her of a state firearm and ran away.

The victim opened a case at the Dawn Park police station and the case was then assigned to Det-Const Godfrey Selele, who ensured prosecution.
