This was part of a cultural tour of the UK and they were accompanied by their music teacher, Alicia Davids.
The trip, organised by Education Africa, also served as an opportunity for cultural exchange between the two countries, as children from both countries spent almost two weeks learning more about each other’s culture and tradition.
According to Davids, she and her students were warmly welcomed by the teachers and children of Lambrook School, in Berkshire.
She added that both the learners and teachers enjoyed the sounds of the marimba.
“The children were extremely happy to be part of this educational experience, which certainly broadened their horizons. They delivered an excellent performance abroad, and it was good to see their hard work paying off, because they spent days practising,” said Davids.
“A big thank you goes to all the trip organisers and coaches, for all the hours spent on organising such an incredible event, which all of the children will remember for years to come.”
Davids mentioned that she is proud of her award-winning marimba band, which she said has walked away with top honours at local and international competitions.
In 2014, the band won the prize for being the most improved hub, while in 2015 the band was named the best marimba group.
The group has been invited to perform at functions in Sandton and Pretoria. -@FanieFLK
