
Last year, the Director of Public Prosecution gave permission for speed cameras to be installed on several roads within the city.
A letter dated August 4 gave the EMPD authorisation for the deployment of cameras for traffic law enforcement, effective from August 6.
This means there are now 24-hour fixed cameras at certain authorised spots.
The following are the affected routes:
* Barry Marais Road, between R554 and Boksburg Prison: speed limit 60kph (above 70kph is authorised for prosecution).
* Campbell Road, between Padda and Kruger streets: speed limit 60kph (above 70kph is authorised for prosecution).
* Cason Road between 14th Avenue and Turf Road: speed limit 60kph (above 70kph is authorised for prosecution).
* Field Road, between Urwin Street and Bird Road: speed limit 60kph (above 70kph is authorised for prosecution).
* Jubilee Road, between Barry Marais and Matthews drives: speed limit 80kph (above 90kph is authorised for prosecution).
* N3 freeway, entire route: speed limit 120kph (above 130kph is authorised for prosecution).
* N12 freeway, entire route: speed limit 120kph (above 130kph is authorised for prosecution).
* N17 freeway, entire route: speed limit 120kph (above 130kph is authorised for prosecution).
* R21 freeway, entire route: speed limit 120kph (above 130kph is authorised for prosecution).
* North Rand Road between Elizabeth and Atlas roads: speed limit 60kph (above 70kph is authorised for prosecution).
* Pretoria Road, between Main Reef Road and Sett Street: speed limit 60kph (above 70kph is authorised for prosecution).
* Trichardts Road, between Shreiner and Rutter streets: speed limit 60kph (above 70kph is authorised for prosecution).
* Trichardts Road, between Railway and Krynauw streets: speed limit 60kph (above 70kph is authorised for prosecution).
* Yaldwyn Road, between Jansen Avenue and Kelly Road: speed limit 60kph (above 70kph is authorised for prosecution).
