EMPD’s omnipresence reduces Easter crime in Boksburg

The omnipresence of EMPD officers, created by way of high visibility patrols in all the known crime and accident hot spots in Boksburg, reduced the irresponsible behaviour of drivers over the Easter weekend.

This is according to EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago.

Kgasago said a total of 128 summonses were issued to drivers for defects on their vehicles, as well as for other offences.

“Four bumper bashing accidents were recorded, with only one fatal accident, on Rondebult, between Comet and Pretoria roads, where a pedestrian was killed.

“It alleged that the pedestrian jumped into the path of a moving vehicle,” said Kgasago.

He added that, on Thursday, March 24, at Cason Mills, three foreign nationals were arrested when they were found to be mining illegally.

All three are Mozambique nationals.

“The equipment used by the illegal miners was confiscated and the case was registered at the Boksburg SAPS,” Kgsago said.

At around midday on March 25, at the Rondebult turnoff on the N17 freeway, two male suspects in a stolen Opel Corsa, loaded with a stolen generator, an I-pod and an assortment of tools, were arrested.

A total of 12 drivers were also arrested for warrants on outstanding traffic fines.

Kasago added that the drivers had to fork out money for the outstanding fines, as well as R300 for each fine towards contempt of court, to avoid sleeping in jail.
