Illegal foreigners nabbed for ‘wreaking havoc’ in Comet

The EMPD Public Order Policing reacted on March 22 to complaints of unruly behavior in Comet.

According to residents of Comet, people were wreaking havoc in the suburb by burning stuff, creating an illegal dumping site and in the process of creating an unhealthy environment for other home owners.

EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago said residents of Comet lodged complaints with the municipality, which resulted in the Metro Police heeding the call from council.

“We swooped on the illegal dumping site in Comet, where seven persons were found to be undocumented and were arrested.

“It was also found that the persons foraging on the site have an arrangement with certain businesses to dump their waste illegally on the site.

“It has also emerged that cable thieves use the site to burn plastic from stolen cables to get to the copper,” said Kgasago.

All seven suspects – four men and three women – are undocumented persons from Mozambique.

Their ages range from 29 to 51.

They were all charged at Boksburg Central police station and are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.

Kgasago added that in-depth investigations are under way to identify all the businesses and private persons involved in dumping illegally on the site.
