Ambassadors to boost water preservation efforts

With the scarcity of water that our country is facing at the moment, the Ekurhuleni Metro has launched its water and sanitation community ambassadors programme.

The aim is to reduce the wastage of water.

A total of 100 ambassadors were chosen on March 8 and they will now be the watchdogs of water in various communities across Ekurhuleni that have been identified as high water consumption areas.

These ambassadors will be responsible for community collecting data, evaluating water meter conditions, leakages and other factors that contribute to water loss.

The data collected will be captured on the municipal database for further intervention.

They will also conduct door-to-door visits to create awareness of the importance of preserving water because “Every Drop Counts”.

Speaking to the newly elected ambassadors at the Boksburg City hall, Mayor Mondli Gungubele said that programmes such as these will help young people to empower themselves from the knowledge that they will gain.

“We hope these ambassadors will reduce the high increase of water wastage and will inform and educate people about the importance of water,” said the mayor.

Water and Energy MMC, Doctor Xhakaza said that from this programme change will be seen and water statistics will speak for themselves.
