Third Reiger Park crash victim dies in hospital

One of the six people who were injured when a car crashed into a tavern, in the Joe Slovo Informal Settlement, died in hospital on March 7.

A car with two occupants crashed into the tavern and killed two people on March 5.

The injured were rushed to Tambo Memorial Hospital. The driver escaped with minor injuries.

The three deceased have since been identified as Lucky Nkosi, owner of the tavern, along with Vusi Nlangeni and Siphiwe Zaula.

Reiger Park community leader Hein April said said this is a great tragedy.

“It is not the first time an incident like this happens and it breaks my heart to see families lose loved ones as a result of speeding motorists,” he added.

The municipality has acted and the construction of speed humps is now underway in the area, following the violence between the Reiger Park SAPS and the Joe Slovo community, on Sunday, March 6

Angry residents took it upon themselves to create traffic calming measures by digging up the road, in order to stop cars from speeding, and were confronted by the police.
