Oos-Rand Staan Saam project a major success; last truck to leave February 13

The Oos-Rand Staan Saam project started a couple of weeks ago, as a water donation group with hundreds of East Randers working together to make a difference.

A 24 and a 30 ton truck were each loaded with thousands of litres of water that were delivered to Senekal, on January 31.

Schools, churches, companies and regular households made it possible to deliver more than 43 000lt of water, approximately 230 bales of hay, 20 bags of cattle and horse feed, and much more.

Schools involved were Hoërskool Oosterlig, Hoërskool Stoffberg, Laerskool Dalview, Laerskool Morewag, Laerskool Die Arend, Brakpan Primary, Felicitas, Laerskool Westwood, Laerskool Concordia, St Dunstan’s College and Hoërskool Voortrekker.

“We also received bottles from Helpende Hand, The Rotary Anns Club of Benoni, the NG Kerk of Sunward Park and several companies,” said Yvonne Davies.

The biker groups involved included Fanatic Riders (president – Flippie Keyter), Familia Riders (president – Elaine Jansen), No Rules, Committed, Why not?, Bad Boys, No Sh*t No Club, Sting and Tainted Souls.

SWS Security guarded the trucks on Friday night, January 29.

The project attracted a massive turnout and, just after 8am on January 30, the trucks left in convoy, escorted by bikers and cars.

“People came out to wave and whistle – it was an unbelievable moment,” said Davies.

“Special thanks to BMT Logistics and De Jager Heavy Haulage for sponsoring the trucks with drivers. You guys rock!”

According to Davies, the difference between the Oos-Rand Staan Saam group and any other group is that they are trying to get actively involved in the community to who they deliver.

The group delivered water to the old age home and spent some quality time with the elderly, handing out treats to all andentertaining them by singing spiritual songs.

They visited farms and spoke to the residents of Senekal.

“This was a life-changing experience,” said Davies.

“This is more than a project; lifelong friends were made.

”We arrived as strangers, but left as family. We’ll see you again.”

Congratulations to Denise Smal who won the lucky draw and is now the owner of a queen bed base set worth R6 000.

A large amount was generated from the sale of the raffle tickets, which has gone towards the buying of water and feed.

* The last truck to deliver water and feed in Senekal to help farmers through the winter will leave on February 13, at 7am.
