Young local actor lands role in The Road
The sky is the limit for Dawn Park resident Owami Masehela, who plays the role of Victor in the telenovela titled The Road.
The drama airs on Mzanzi Magic.
Owami plays Styles’s younger brother and Ntombi’s big brother.
In the drama, they live in the infamous Kofifi. The Road moves between the iconic, ill-fated 1950s era and modern day Jozi and it weaves a tale of past and present.
An epic love story and a series of mysterious deaths collide when an evocative book written from the memories of an old man leads to the silver screen.
Owami started his television career when he was still young; he has featured in several TV advertisements, in store posters and catalogues.
The 11-year-old Grade Seven learner at Dawn Park Primary School, who aspires to be a pilot one day, says he loves reading and playing soccer and he supports Orlando Pirates and FC Barcelona.
As part of this stellar cast, he gets to rub shoulders with big shots in the industry, the likes of Kabelo Mabalane, SK Khoza, Themba Ndaba, Darlington Michaels, Nandi Mngoma and others.
Owami says Victor, the character he portrays, is very similar to his life, because Victor respects and loves his family and wants the best for them.
“Being part of the cast of The Road has been a wonderful journey that I would not trade for anything,” Owami said.
”I have learned so many things about acting; I have met great actors and actresses who I normally see on television and finally got to share the limelight with them.”
Thuli Masehela, who is Owami’s casting agent at Kids r Stars, said: “We are very proud of him and hope this is the beginning of better things to come for our star”.
Owami said he wishes that children his age can dream big, study hard, stay in school and respect their elders.
You can watch The Road on Mzanzi Magic, channel 161, from Monday to Thursday,s at 7.30pm.
