Deep open trench a danger to Windmill Primary learners

A deep trench, close to the Windmill Park Primary School entrance gate, has been left unattended for months now.

The trench, which has apparently been there since October, last year, is said to have been dug up by municipal workers who wanted to connect new pipes.

The principal of Windmill Park Primary School, Oscar Lekoane, expressed his disappointment at how carelessly the workers just dug up the deep trench and left it open.

“It poses a great danger to the learners at the school,” he said.

During the December holidays, when it was raining, water filled the trench and children ended up soaked when they accidentally stepped into the trench.

One angry resident said that holes and trenches are quickly filled around town, but when it comes to a township school then the metro fails to act.

Ward 99’s Clr Claud Mabaso said he was never notified of the problem, but he will attend to it.

Comment from metro had not been received at the time of going to print.
