Collision leads to car landing in dugout trench

A VW five-door Polo Vivo, with two occupants, landed in a trench in the morning of October 27, following an accident.

According to Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, a white Toyota Siyaya minibus taxi with 14 occupants, travelling on Trichardts Road towards Boksburg, and the Vivo, that was travelling on Dudley Smith Road, collided at around 6.20am.

A grey Mazda LDV was also bumped during the accident.

“The taxi driver, in his 30s, didn’t sustain any visible injuries and was issued with R1 500 in fines for not being in possession of a valid driver’s licence or a professional driver’s permit,” said Mokheseng.

“Three commuters from the taxi were taken to the Tambo Memorial Hospital for medical treatment, due to slight injuries they sustained.

“The woman driver and the passenger from the Vivo received medical treatment on the scene.

“The Mazda driver and his 13-year-old daughter were unscathed.

“It is not clear at this stage what actually caused the accident, but our Accident Reconstruction Unit will investigate further,” Mokheseng concluded.
