Don’t create an opportunity for SAPS to be corrupt

Police corruption is understood to be a hazard inherent to the occupation, thus a negative reflection of the organisation.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, the corrupt police official is not ”born”, but ”made”, due to influences and negative opportunities that are presented to him during his tour of duty.

“Members and the community must be aware of the nature, consequences and negative implications of corruption in their environment,” said Coetzer.

Therefore, she added, the community must take note of these facts and not create an opportunity for members to be corrupt.

Report SAPS corruption on the National Anti-Corruption Hotline number, 0800 701 701.

You can stay anonymous at all times.

“Do not give in to corrupt requests made to you – you will also then be part of the corruption circle,” said Coetzer.

“If you have not done anything wrong, there will be nothing to be afraid of.”
