Lerato won the district competition, recently held in Boksburg, before she was chosen to take part in the provincial cross-country race, where she competed against hundreds of other runners from all the primary schools in the province.
The primary school groups consisted of cross-country runners aged between nine and 13 years, while the secondary age groups consisted of runners aged between 14 to 19 years.
Lerato did not make it to the top, but she came 43rd in the competition.
However, Lakeside Primary’s deputy principal, Joan Moosa, applauded Lerato’s performance, adding that she did very well considering the number of contestants she outperformed.
Prior to the event Lerato told this publication that she was physically and mentally ready to deliver her best performance at the big event, where she hoped to reach the top of the sport.
Winners of the Gauteng Schools Cross-Country running will be representing the province in the SA School Cross-Country Championship, to be held soon. -@FanieFLK
