
*Vernon “Sticks” Simons, of Reiger Park, was convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The accused pleaded not guilty to two counts on July 2, but the court found him guilty on a competent charge on September 2.
Simons was charged with robbery and attempted murder.
This is after he attempted to kill Samuel Johannes by stabbing him on January 3 and, again with force, took R25 cash from him the next day, using a firearm.
However, following a trial, the court found the accused guilty only of of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The accused has three previous convictions, two of theft and one of robbery.
He was sentenced to five years imprisonment, two of which were suspended for five years.
Magistrate Abel Ramufhufhi presided and prosecutor Jabu Motha represented the state.
* Siphiwe Sithole (24), of Vosloorus Extension 28, was convicted of housebreaking with intention to steal and theft.
On May 3, the accused broke open and entered a property at 196 Lichanga Street, in Vosloorus, and stole two car batteries and a braai pack, all worth R980.
He has a previous conviction for theft dating back to 2008.
He was sentenced to three years in jail, wholly suspended for five years.
Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided and prosecutor Themba Maluleke represented the state.
* Daniel Mhlanga (32) was convicted of theft on September 7.
He pleaded not guilty to stealing a wheelbarrow and two kitchen zincs from Lindo Buhle Malahoba, but the court found him guilty as charged.
The accused has four previous convictions: assault in 2008, robbery in 2004, theft in 2007, assault in 2008, and housebreaking and theft in 2014.
He was sentenced to 18 months in prison and the magistrate ordered the sentences to run consecutively with any sentence he is currently serving.

*Eric Gili (31) of Ramaphosa informal settlement, pleaded not guilty to two counts on July 10.
He was charged with housebreaking with intent to steal and theft and possession of housebreaking implements.
The accused broke into the property of Robert Musehla and stole clothes worth R2 300.
He was found guilty only of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft.
He had no previous convictions and the magistrate sentenced him to 18 months in prison.
Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided and prosecutor Busi Mofokeng represented the state.
