Criminals feel the heat as police arrest 17 suspects

Several Reiger Park SAPS crime prevention operations held during the period between August 31 and September 6, saw 17 suspects arrested for drug related crimes.

Reiger park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela, applauded community members including the community forums, for assisting the police in the fight against crime in the area.

“Our recent partnership with the community including the CPF is now bearing fruits, and we encourage residents to continue sending their anonymous tip-offs to the police,” said Phathela.

“As part of an ongoing drive to cut crime, we will regularly engage in large scale coordinated crime prevention activities across the township.

“We are not going anywhere. The criminals will feel the heat.

Tip-offs can be sent via SMS to 32211 or by phoning the police station on 011 916 7000.

A breakdown of the arrest made are as follows:

Theft: 3

Assault GBH: 2

Possession of illegal substance: 17

Contravention of protection order: 3

Malicious damage to property: 4

House breaking: 4

Intimidation: 4

Common robbery: 3

Possession of counterfeit goods: 2

Possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition: 2

Possession of dangerous weapon: 1

The community members elected to serve in the interim committee include Crescendo Neels (chairperson), Andile Mdepha (vice-chairperson), Chris Mohlabane (secretary), Rosa Gilchrist (vice-secretary), Yusuf Oconno (treasurer) and Unathi Lindiso (organiser).
