DTF Security donates netball kits to local needy team
No kit, no money – these were some of the harsh realities of the needy Comet's netball team.
Things have, however, changed for the better for the team, since a Boksburg-based, caring company, DTF Security, took it upon itself to provide the players with some of the equipment.
The company recently donated brand new full netball kits to Comet’s team, which consists of 12 young girls from the community which is based in the Comet mine houses.
Each player received a pair of tekkies, a netball shirt and skirt, as well as two pairs of socks, from the DTF Security.
The six players who attended the handover of the kit were overjoyed at the generosity of the company.
According to Boksburg SAPS’s Sgt Cebisa Maseko, it is great that youngsters are participating in sport, instead of being engaged in crime.
“Comet’s team, called Girls of Destiny, is one of the best netball teams from the local underprivileged communities. They have won most of the netball tournaments recently organised by the Social Crime Prevention Unit in the Boksburg policing precinct,” said Maseko.
“This team is doing well in netball and that’s why we have decided to help them to solicit donations – so they can continue to involve themselves in sports.”
DTF Security sales manager Claudia Horne said the donation was part of the company’s social responsibility plan.
“When the police recently told us that these young girls were playing netball without sneakers, we were moved and decided to do something urgently.
“Our company has always been eager to build a proper relationship with the communities it serves, and to support their development projects.
“These settlements within Boksburg are also included, and I hope the donation will go a long way in meeting the team’s challenges.”-@FanieFLK
