Empowering women to make a valuable contribution to society
In celebration of Women’s Month, a local entrepreneur-cum-motivational speaker, Natalie Skeepers, organised a women’s session on Saturday, August 14.
About 47 local women, aged between 18 and 35, gathered in the dance studio located on Atlas Road, in Westwood, to listen to several speakers discussing different issues affecting women nowadays.
Topics ranged between women’s health, personal concierge services and career opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
Among the speakers were Margaret-Ann Diedricks (director-general of the Department of Water and Sanitation), Susan Mothshwene (a personal concierge and brand specialist) and Dr Agatha Wilhase.
“Too much food and alcohol is not good for the health of your body; we all know that ‘too much of anything is dangerous’ – it’s about moderation in all things,” said Wilhase, who paid particular attention to hygiene and health maintenance.
South Africa annually commemorates Women’s Month in August, as a tribute to the thousands of women who marched to the Union Buildings on August 9, 1956, in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.
