24 months correctional supervision for stealing Disprin tablets

Jabulani Ndimande (30), who also goes by the name Elias Sipho Khumalo, was convicted of theft on August 6.

This is after he was arrested for stealing two packets of Disprin tablets from the Boxer store, on April 25.

He has four previous convictions, which include possession of drugs and theft.

He was sentenced to 24 months correctional supervision.

Magistrate Jurg Viviers presided and prosecutor Themba Maluleke represented the state.

The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrates Court:

* Ashton Bezuidenhout (31), of Reiger Park, pleaded guilty to theft on August 5.

The accused, together with an accomplice who has been discharged, were arrested for stealing an engine starter and distributor, valued R10 000, belonging to Jacob Kula, on April 29.

The accused has a 2001 theft conviction.

He was sentenced toa fine of R8 000 or six months in prison.

Magistrate Abel Ramufhufhi presided and prosecutor Jabu Motha represented the state.

* Mozambican citizen Jacquem Armando Chirinda (36) was imprisoned for selling counterfeit DVDs and music CDs.

He pleaded guilty on August 6, and the court also found him guilty as charged.

Chirinda was arrested on July 10, in Dunswart, after he was found in possession of 50 movie DVDs, 13 music DVDs, 63 MP3 CDs, 39 audio CDs and 20 porn DVDs, with a combined market value of R27 600.

It was also established that he is in the country illegally.

The court sentenced him to a fine of R10 000, or 12 months in prison and ordered that he be deported after serving his sentence.

Magistrate Emmanuel Magampa presided and prosecutor Angeline Mooiman represented the state.

* Juan Pretorius (26), of Benoni, was convicted of theft on August 6.

He pleaded guilty to stealing a toolbox worth R1 000 from F Mare, at the East Rand Mall, and the court also found him guilty as charged.

He has four previous convictions: theft in 2011, housebreaking in 2012, theft in 2012 and theft in 1013.

He was sentenced to a fine of R6 000, or 12 months in prison.

Magistrate Molefe Ratlau presided and prosecutor Ntombi Mbonani represented the state.

* Arends Button (26), of Reiger Park, was convicted for possession of dagga on August 6.

He pleaded guilty and the court also found him guilty, on June 3, of being in possession of 17 sticks of dagga on May 1.

In 2005, he was convicted of a similar charge.

In March 2006 he was convicted of housebreaking and, in February 2010, he was convicted of robbery.

Magistrate Molefe Ratlau presided and prosecutor Ntombi Mbonani represented the state.
