Waging war against counterfeit goods

The Reiger Park police conducted a search operation recently, during which a sizable amount of counterfeit goods were seized from spaza shops across the township.

The search continued from one shop to the next, where storerooms were raided and fake goods worth about R7 000 were found.

The items included 1 240 packets of Rizla tobacco rolling papers and 866 fake Afzal flavoured tobacco hookah molasses.

The shop owners, mostly foreign nationals, were not arrested, but police issued them with written warnings.

“We will visit their shops again and, if we find that they are still trading in counterfeit goods we will arrest them,” said Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela. -@FanieFLK
