Stupid mistake lands suspect behind bars

Four suspects, who may have robbed a vendor in Paul Smit Street, Anderbolt, on July 14, have been arrested.

According to Boksburg North SAPS communications officer Lieut Juanita Coetzer, the robbers initially drove past the victim and stopped further down the road.

They then allegedly walked up to him and pointed a firearm at him.

“The suspects took his cash and cigarettes and fired a shot into the air,” said Coetzer.

“They then jumped into the VW Polo and drove off to Actonville.”

“It is suspected that they then left the vehicle at the Actonville hostel.”

In a strange turn of events, one of the suspects then reported that the vehicle – the Polo – had been hijacked, to throw the police off their scent.

Upon investigation, it was found that the suspect was lying, and he was arrested by the Benoni SAPS and transported to the Boksburg North SAPS.

Following further investigation, Boksburg North Detectives arrested the other three suspects.
