The owners of the truck confirmed to the EMPD that it had been taken forcefully at 5am from the driver at gunpoint.
“At around 7am, EMPD officers from Katlehong Precinct on patrol recovered the truck, which was left bandoned on Thutong Road in Mofokeng section,” said EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago.
Kgasago said whilst on the scene of the recovered truck at around 7.30am, the metro police were informed by the vehicle tracking company officials that the trailer had been found in Vosloorus with all its load gone.
The truck owner organised a tow-truck to take the truck and trailer to the yard.
The case of truck hijacking was registered at Boksburg police station.
Police have launched a manhunt for the persons responsible.
