According to Reiger Park police spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, Ismail Isaac de Klerk from Ramaphosa was shot seven times and left dying along Fish Eagle Street on Tuesday, April 2.
Police, along with paramedics, attended the scene following the execution-style killing.
De Klerk returned home from prison earlier this month, after serving time for an undisclosed criminal offence.
Police believe he was targeted and that it was not a random shooting.
The Reiger Park police have identified a person of interest and are actively searching for the suspect.
“No arrest has been made so far, but we are confident that the gunman will be brought to book soon,” said Phathela.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the investigating officer, Det WO Simon Madonsela on 011 916 7000.
It is rumoured that de Klerk was an accomplice to the alleged Ramaphosa robber, Wiseman Tshabe (24), who died after he was struck by a bullet from his own gun during a mugging on Elsburg Road.
Police believe his accomplice took the gun from him and fled.
It also emerged that, before his death, Tshabe was previously arrested for several criminal offences.
He was previously charged for illegal possession of ammunition, burglary and two counts of theft.
Police are also investigating a possible link between the Ramphosa shooting on Fish Eagle Street and a possible gang-related incident on March 29, where two men were gunned down at a party on Sunny Street, Reiger Park. – @FanieFLK
