Fun stroll with loved pets helps raise funds for SPCA

Hundreds of dogs and their owners, from all over the East Rand, took part in the fifth annual Sunset Adventure Dog Walk, on Saturday, March 28.

This fundraising event, organised by SPCA branches on the East Rand, was held at the Boksburg City Stadium.

Owners and their furry friends walked 5km off-road to raise money for the SPCA branches.

Sponsors and participants also donated blankets, leads, collars and food for animals in need.

According to one of the organisers, Ann Martin, this year they raised more than R20 000, which is almost double the amount raised last year.

There were two courses of different lengths and activities. The longer course required old clothes to be worn by adventurers, as the format was in the form of an interesting, yet fun obstacle course.

The Adventure Walk also served as an opportunity for the SPCAs to engage with the community and get feedback, as well as remind the community of the work the society does for animals in need.
