‘Daring, shameless thief’ is sentenced

The 24-year-old Reiger Park man, who was caught stealing seized alcohol from the Reiger Park Police Station, has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison.

This is according to Boksburg Magistrate Court’s chief prosecutor Henk Strydom.

According to Sgt Mashudu Pathela of the Reiger Park SAPS, Nathan Brown pleaded guilty and was found guilty of breaking into a property with the intent to steal.

He was sentenced to a further six months for resisting arrest.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Brown was caught red-handed while trying to steal alcohol from a storeroom at the police station, at around 4am, on Sunday, February 1.

The police, who described Brown as a “daring, shameless thief”, said he carried two crates full of beer from the storeroom.

Two more crates of beer, which had also been taken from the storeroom, were later found in the field outside the station.

Brown allegedly cut a hole through the outside fence to enter the premises, before jumping a wall to gain access to the storeroom.

It has been reported that he was out on parole for housebreaking at the time of his arrest.
