
According to Sgt Mashudu Phathela, a spokesperson for the Reiger Park SAPS, the suspects were arrested while participating in a protest at the entrance of Harambe Community Development and Resource Centre.
They were burning tyres and preventing people from entering the premises.
It is believed the protest was prompted by the groups’ unsuccessful bid to obtain the centre, to use for their meetings and other public gatherings.
Harambe Community Development and Resource Centre is managed by a board of trustees.
There were no reported injuries or vandalism.
The suspects are facing an additional charge for resisting arrest.
The suspects appeared in court on February 24 and 26.They are expected to return to court on Monday, March 2, for their formal bail application.
