WARNING: Make sure your vehicle is locked
The Boksburg North SAPS encourages citizens to take note of the following precaution measures in order to keep their vehicles and possessions safe.

Ensure that when you park your vehicle, all doors are locked and that the alarm is activated properly.
According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Lieut Juanita Coetzer, criminals have devices which they press simultaneously as you press your remote.
This device overrules your security device; when you press your remote, they press their device at the same time.
“This results in your remote not functioning properly, therefore, they can just open your vehicle without your alarm functioning.”
She says that the latest is for criminals to walk past your vehicle while you close the front door of it; they then open the vehicles opposite back door a little and walk past.
“When you then press the alarm, the door is already open just to take out your belongings.”
Coetzer also encourages people to not place valuables in their vehicle when they know they are going to stop somewhere.
“Especially when you are planning to visit malls or shopping centres; this is where criminals operate without being noticed easily.
“Even if there are carguards present, make sure you close your vehicle and lock it.”
Do not leave anything on the seats or under the seat where it can be seen.
“This is your property and your responsibility to take care of it.”
Coetzer also mentions that people have the tendency of reporting false cases of theft out of motor vehicles.
“They allege that when they went shopping, they left their cash, handbags, cellphones, laptops and iPad’s in their vehicle.”
The complainants then go to their police station and report their vehicle being broken into.
“You should phone 10111 to report this crime, your vehicle is regarded as a crime scene – don’t move the vehicle.”
The police will come to your vehicle and then fingerprints should be taken from your vehicle.
“These cases will be investigated and if found that it is a false claim, you will be charged with perjury and will face the consequences.
“The insurance companies will also be informed of a false claim accordingly.” – @IschkeBoksburg
